Back on the Horse 1/13/2008 Back on the horse. Hello everyone, I’m just going to post a quick update today, because I am busy packing and getting ready to leave for Lake Placid tomorrow morning. Our prep period has now officially finished and I am very thankful to be over my sickness and to finally feel healthy and ready to go on the road for the World Cup Tour. My ears have cleared up, and my mind is peaceful and prepared for the season. I jumped yesterday, and had the best training session of the season, so my body is prepared as well. So, I am excited to go, and can’t wait to see some of you there, if not cheer from home, or watch on Versus. The schedule is listed here: Read More |

Catching Up... 1/8/2008 Hello everyone, In one week, the team and I will embark on a brand new season. This is always an exciting time of year, a time to start over, to envision dreams and goals, to really get down to what it will take to be a champion this year, and to have the season we’ve always dreamed of. For me, that definitely includes performance and being on the podium, but it also means truly experiencing what a gift this lifestyle of being an athlete really is. Read More |

A change of plans... 11/23/2007 Hello everyone, Just a quick update from Park City. Our trip to Canada has been canceled because it looks like we will be able to jump in Utah in the next week or so! It’s very exciting for us to be able to stay home for a while before a long season, to have access to the US Ski Team gym and staff, and to have our own jump site where we can train when we want and have great conditions. It’s cold here, so the Utah Olympic Park is blowing lots of snow for us, and the rest of the town has no snow, so we are feeling pretty fortunate that they are working so hard so we can train. Our plan is to build a site next week and hopefully get to jumping by Wednesday of next week. Thanksgiving was wonderful, and I want to say a huge thanks to the Amidan family for hosting the entire team! We had a blast and all had a chance to remember what it is we are truly thankful for. Thanks to Tammy and Jerry for their amazing hospitality. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Love, Emily Read More |

Almost Winter!!! 11/11/2007 Good Morning from Park City! It’s been a whirlwind of fundraisers and workouts this fall, and thankfully we are finally just one week away from our first on snow training camp in Apex, Canada. I’d like to send out a huge thanks to everyone who helped out with the Chicago Ski Ball, the Jan’s Winter Welcome and the New York City Ski Ball. All three events were a huge success and a step in the right direction for both the future of the US Ski Team and US Olympic Team as well as the young athletes in Utah and around the country. Plus, all three events were a blast for all who attended, including myself. Read More |

Jumping into fall... 10/16/2007 Hello again everyone, I know it’s seemed like fall for quite a while now, but last week our summer training officially came to an end. We finished up our last training block jumping into the water with the snow coming down sideways on the ramp and into the pool, reminding us that winter is in fact just around the corner. Though it was cold and challenging to jump well when freezing (no, the pool is still not heated, it was pretty close to 50 degrees), my summer ended on a high point. After each large training block, the team participates in a competition simulation, which gives us an opportunity to test out the skills that we have been training. The competition allows us to test our mental and physical preparation, and to focus on the skills that we need to improve for the winter and competition season. My comp sim went great! I did my best full double full of the summer, winning the competition and giving me that extra boost of confidence and energy to move into winter. Read More |

Back to Jumping. 9/25/2007 Hi again, Well, I have officially returned to training and it’s going great! I started off with a nice easy return to jumping plan, with some simple tricks and low volume on the first few days. I then progressed into doubles, and learned once again, that often times a bit of time off is a blessing in disguise. It allows me to refresh my mind and body and once again I have returned to the sport a stronger jumper than before the setback. Read More |

Back to jumping! 9/17/2007 Hi again everyone! Good News! I have been cleared to return to jumping and am planning on taking a few jumps at the Olympic Park tomorrow morning. I’m feeling great and am confident that I will progress back to normal training throughout this week, allowing me to prepare properly for the winter season. It’s getting a bit cold here, but with a few layers of under armor and a dry suit I’ll be perfect to jump as much as I want through October 7th when the ramps close. Read More |

Return to Training 9/12/2007 This week has been filled with good news! I spoke with Dr. Karli on Monday, and we determined that it looks like the injection was successful. On Tuesday I progressed into some simple core exercises, stretching, a few laps in the pool and a very brief workout on the elliptical runner to see how my back would react. It’s Wednesday morning and I feel great. It’s difficult to take so much time off during our most important training time of the season, the fall. But it looks like it was a good choice. My body feels refreshed and healthy, and today we will move forward with our plan for the week, progressing into more and more activity to test the disc before jumping again next week. Read More |

Injection Update 9/8/2007 Hello again everyone. This past week has been one of health and healing, and though I have not been jumping I have had the chance to take care of my body and spend some time with some wonderful friends in Colorado. The injection with Dr. Karli on Tuesday went very well and though I am still pretty sore from the needle, I think it may have cleared up most of the pain I was experiencing from the bulged disc in my back.
